Halfway Decent Adventure: Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

Yesterday a baby giraffe was born at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and since we were itching to adventure today anyway, that’s where we headed. I know I went to this zoo when I was a kid, but I don’t really remember it so I was completely blown away throughout our trip.

We started out by taking the sky ride up the mountain and it was absolutely gorgeous.

When we reached the top Nate and Cuddles both looked through the binoculars, but I never have any quarters so I don’t think it was much of a view.

Also at the top there were a few climbing structures that we both gave a go and we’re both too short to go very high on.

Back at the bottom we checked out the rest of the animals. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a shot of the baby giraffe because there were too many people and it was dark in there.

I always feel like the male gorillas look like they just need some love.

For real this has to be the coolest zoo I’ve ever been to. As with most places, the earlier you get there the better. We arrived right at nine when they open and got a super close parking spot and didn’t have to wait but a minute for tickets, but when we were leaving around 12:30 the line of cars wound for at least a good couple of miles down the mountain. Even if we’d had to wait in that line, I think it would have definitely been worth the trip. It was amazing.
